Brief Description

Billian K. Otundo is a postdoctoral researcher at the Cluster of Excellence Africa Multiple, University of Bayreuth in Germany and is pursuing a habilitation (postdoctoral degree) at the Department of English Linguistics at the same university. She attained her doctorate as a BIGSAS fellow, where her doctoral dissertation (Otundo 2018) focused on ethnically-marked varieties of Kenyan English(es). Her habilitation project is on multilingual African learning spaces with attention to translanguaging. At the Cluster of Excellence, she is also a co-convener and organiser of a postdoctoral working group, and her research explores the linguistic realities in Kenya’s digital innovations. Further, she is engaged in an ongoing collaboration project on intonation in Kenyan English and Kiswahili at the Phonetic Laboratory at the University of Cologne, Germany. In her research endeavours, she has engaged a mix of quantitative and qualitative data and is experienced in analysis with SPSS, R-Programming, Praat, and MAXQDA among others
